The FFLA  holds conferences twice a year in the eastern and western United States and  Canada. A Board of Directors meeting is held each January and state chapter meetings are held periodically.  Special events are held periodically, including lookout work days, National Historic Lookout Register presentations, and lookout and watchman camp dedications. 

FFLA summer conferences are the largest of FFLA's yearly events.  A typical conference allows members (and non-members/general public) to attend leadership meetings, hear programs on lookouts, fire prevention and conservation, view displays, and take part in area lookout field trips. 

2013 Western Conference
The 2013 Western Conference will be hosted by the Lincoln National Forest in Cloudcroft, New Mexico.  this location is near the very historic Monjeau Lookout.  The current date is September 19 through the 23, September 2013.  Be sure to save the date!

2013 Eastern Conference
The Southeastern U.S. Chapter will co-host the 2013 Summer Meeting of the Eastern and the Southern Regions in Beckley, WV on June 21st through the 23rd, 2013.  See below for more info.

On Saturday, June 22 the Eastern and Southern Regions will have a combined meeting at the West Virginia Division of Forestry Regional Office at 330 Harper Park Drive in Beckley, WV. The location, just north of the junction of I-64 (the WV Turnpike) and I-77 in the southern part of the state, was selected to encourage members throughout the Northeast and South to drive. There are many nationwide motels at that location. The best rate is at Super 8. There is no designated motel because folks have a variety of preferences. Saturday morning will include presentations by Assistant Director of WV State Parks Bob Beanblossom and WV DOF Regional Forester Tom Cover.

Saturday afternoon visits will be to Tams Mountain and Huff Knob Fire Towers. 

There is a wonderful pre-, or post-meeting trip to the Bald Knob and the restored Gauley Mountain towers reached via steam logging trains in the Cass Scenic Railroad State Park. Friday may be better than Sunday because of the summer tourist season, but either day is an option. The train leaves at 11 AM for the six-hour trip. Chairman Argow will be there on Friday at 10:30 AM to join any folks that can make this on their way to Beckley Friday night (about a two-hour drive).

Other towers in the area are that might be visited include Keeney Mountain (Summer County) and Ivy Knob (Wyoming County), depending on how far individuals want to drive and their vehicle capabilities.

While there are no registration forms or conference fees, potential attendees are asked to notify Southern Deputy Chair Ron Stafford (wag2200@verizon.net) or Chairman Keith Argow (argow@cs.net) of their plans.
